Donald E. Fisher II was part of a large and patriotic military family. "Were talking about a kid who, as a kid, cried because someone stole the flag off our flagpole," said his father, Donald Fisher. "He was very committed." Fisher, 21, of Tacoma, Wash., died Nov. 11 in a vehicle collision in Kirkut. He was assigned to Fort Lewis. Fisher was a 2002 high school graduate and joined the military that year. Last month he re-enlisted for another six-year stint. "He was calm, even-keeled," his dad said. "He never really got mad at anybody. No matter how bad a situation was, he could put a smile on your face." His older brother, Robert, also is a soldier. One sister is in the National Guard. Their father's Army career lasted about 12 years. The boys gave him one of those framed post-Sept. 11 prints that shows a firefighter handing off to a soldier, with the soldier saying, "Well take it from here." "Their thing was, 'Dad, you've done your part. You sit back. Now we're going to do ours,'" Fisher recalled. "That picture has been on our wall ever since." He also is survived by his mother, Sheryl.
